“State House Isn’t a Hospital”: Matiang’i Promises to Slash State House Spending by 80%

Jubilee presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i has launched a scathing attack on what he describes as the massive wastage of public funds, specifically targeting the ballooning budget for State House.

Matiang’i characterized these financial allocations as clear evidence of the government’s flawed priorities.

“We are suffering from historic wastage of public resources, unprecedented. I have never seen things like this we are seeing. They say this year’s budget allocates Ksh. 17 billion to State House,” he said.

While attending a church service in Murang’a County, Matiang’i challenged the logic that the presidency receives far more funding than vital national facilities such as the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

“I am asking myself this: How can the State House need more money than Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital? State House is not a referral hospital; there is no surgery being done there, no babies are being born there, and no kidney transplant is done at State House. Why do you need Ksh.17 billion?” he told the congregation at Weithaga ACK Church.

Matiang’i argued that the country cannot justify increasing State House funding while essential public sectors face a financial squeeze. He further claimed that the government intended to use the extra budget to facilitate bribery during the 2027 general election.

The presidential contender vowed that, if elected, he would slash State House spending immediately.

“This is when I say… give me that job and see. I will cut that budget by 80%. Ksh. 7 billion will go to education, and Ksh. 7 billion will go to the health sector. State House will remain with Ksh. 3 billion, and I might even return a billion by the end of the year,” he said.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary also dismissed rumors of a split within the United Opposition. He suggested that the opposition’s growing influence has clearly unsettled their critics.

They are shaking; they have tried to divide us, thinking we would never work together. I have bad news for you. We are going to work together,” he said.
