Kiambu – Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department have arrested two suspects linked to narcotics.

In a statement on Monday, March 16, DCI announced an anti-narcotics operation to arrest two suspects in Kiambu county.
According to the DCI, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) received intelligence that there was a drug exchange in Syokimau, Machakos county on Sunday, March 15.
“Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), in collaboration with officers from the National Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), yesterday conducted an intelligence-led operation to target a suspected drug-trafficking network. Acting on intelligence that the suspects were planning to exchange drugs in Syokimau, Machakos County, the team quickly responded.

However, when the well-armed detectives arrived in Syokimau, they discovered that the exchange had been moved to Ruaka area in Kiambu county.
Detectives later raided Mbuti Apartments, where they found several items, including pills and packages of suspected drugs.
During the operation, detectives arrested two suspects, Alex Opondo, a Kenyan and Okeke Okechukwu, a citizen of Nigeria.
“However, upon arrival, it was learned that the scheduled meeting was aborted. According to real-time information from confidential sources, the operation was directed to Ruaka, Kiambu County. A search of a house in Mbuti Apartment, Ruaka, led to the discovery of several items including pills and packages of suspected narcotic drugs, digital phones, foreign currency scales and foreign currency in Nigeria. Two suspects were arrested while of the operation: Okeke Ikechukwu, a Nigerian citizen and Alex Opondo, a Kenyan citizen,” read the statement.
The suspects were escorted to the Ruaraka and Pangani Police stations for processing.

The suspects are expected to be brought to court today as the investigation continues to hunt down more suspects and dismantle a wide network of smuggling.

In other news, an operation coordinated by the National Anti-Narcotics Authority (NACADA), with the assistance of officers from the National Police Service (NPS), led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of more than six hundred bags of suspected marijuana in the Kware area, Embakasi South Sub-County.
On Tuesday, March 10, an intelligence operation was launched following a public complaint about a suspected drug dealer operating near Tuimani School and the KAG church.
Residents feared that the increase in drug activity was dangerous for children.
A multi-agency team led by NACADA conducted a search in a shop and a nearby house, which led to the suspicion of drug trafficking.
