Nairobi: Valuable Property Destroyed As Fire Destroys Toi Market

Nairobi: A big fire has burnt part of the Toi Market in Kibra, causing panic among traders, residents and nearby schools.

Several sheds and properties of unknown value were destroyed during the incident on Monday, March 16.

As a result of the videos circulating online, heavy smoke billowed from the market as efforts intensified to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, a situation that caused alarm from some Kenyans, while some called on the government for such frequent tragedies.

At the same time, Kibra Member of Parliament Peter Orero has given information about the morning incident.

The member of parliament was saddened by the incident and explained that the fire has been controlled by emergency personnel and local teams who took immediate action to prevent it from spreading in the neighborhood.

“My heart goes out to the many businessmen who have lost their livelihood and property in this fire. Toi Market is the backbone of our community’s economy, and I know the pain caused by this loss. We are committed to standing with you,” he said.

“I express my sincere gratitude to the firefighters, security officers, local leaders, and community members who acted courageously to prevent the fire from reaching nearby homes and institutions,” he added.

Orero disclosed that the students of Toi Primary School were released and sent home when the fire broke out as a precautionary measure.

He assured all parents that the school was not under threat and that the evacuation was a safety priority with emergency teams working nearby.

The Member of Parliament urged the public to remain calm and avoid the affected area to allow the emergency teams to complete their work.

“Please continue to cooperate fully with the authorities in place,” he urged.

In related news, a fire destroyed Mama Ngina’s Orphanage there Poisonousand completely destroyed the upper part of the dormitory where there were 58 children.

Reports indicated that the fire was caused by an electrical fault shortly after the children finished their lunch.
