The publication reported on the revelation by Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai that the victory of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga was stolen in 2007.
Mbai, who was then a police sergeant attached to the security of the government spokesperson Alfred Mutuagave a description of a mysterious phone call on December 30, 2007.
It was his day off, but the electoral crisis engulfing the country had already turned the capital into a place of anxious anticipation.
He was informed that he was on standby. Mbai was ordered to come to KICC, and informed about the arrangements to ensure Mwai Kibaki he remains in power regardless of the election results.
“Around four in the evening, Dr. Mutua called me privately. I was told, ‘You can see what is happening. We don’t know how the day will end, but we know Kibaki must remain president,'” Mbai said.

Waihenya recalled the intense pressure surrounding the publication of the contested results.
“There were important people who kept calling him; Minister John Michuki, Muthaura, Dr. Mutua and a senior military officer. They had the president in the White House. Of all these people, Mutua was the one in my case. It was Mutua – not Muthaura, not the minister (Michuki). Mutua was conducting his activities from the KICC and the White House. Sometimes he would call me, and I would hear the president’s voice,” Waihenya said.
