Nicholas Kipkurgat Ruto, popularly known as Nick, the first born of the President of Kenya William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto, has led a very private life, often described as secretive in the dynamics of Kenya’s first family.

Nick is a trained lawyer and was admitted to the bar in 2019. He currently works at the renowned firm Dentons Hamilton Harrison & Mathews, specializing in commercial, banking and securities law.

In his earlier years, before he chose a more quiet life, Nick was frequently associated with the life of entertainment in Nairobi’s social scene.

When did Nick Ruto start living a more private life?

News reports from around 2016 described his appearance in fancy nightclubs, where he and his friends, including the son of Uhuru KenyattaMuhoho, were enjoying a night of luxury.

It was reported that the sons of Uhuru, Ruto and Raila Odinga they spent more than 1 million Kenyan shillings in famous clubs buying champagne and entertainment.

In one event at a club in Westlands, Nick was seen entering the VIP section with his lawyer friends.

It is said that he left late at night, accompanied by his guards.

This phase of high spending and much celebration contrasted sharply with his later life decisions.

In January 2022, Nick chose a quieter way of life by marrying his longtime girlfriend, Evelyn Chemutai, in a traditional Kalenjin “koito” ceremony held at Windy Ridge, Karen, Nairobi.

The private event was attended by Ruto’s family as well as a few elected politicians, including governors and senators.

Nick wore a special white suit with a panama hat.

Today, Nick lives a very quiet life, rarely appearing in public at family events or special social events.

When was Nick Ruto last seen in public?

Recent photos from 2025 show him sporting a long beard and actively participating in celebrations like Nicole Lang’at’s wedding.

Unlike his siblings, Nick avoids appearing in the media.

His sister Charlene Ruto actively participates in public relations, charity activities and national forums under the unofficial role of “Office of the First Daughter.” He also runs an NGO and is a passionate farmer.

His brother George Ruto is known for his business activities, including owning a chain of luxury matatus as well as frequent public appearances.

Nick’s deliberate isolation has sparked public curiosity about the personal life of the eldest son of the Ruto family, and clearly shows that it is a deliberate choice to live a normal life within a high-profile family in Kenya.

Elsewhere, Nick’s younger sister, Stephanie Jepchumba Ruto, sparked a debate online after she was seen with a small device attached to her arm during a public event in Machakos county.

Some social media users wondered what the function of the device was.

The health expert later explained that the circular patch was a continuous glucose monitoring sensor.

The device monitors blood sugar levels in real time without the need for frequent finger pricks.

It uses a small sensor that is placed under the skin and sends information wirelessly to a phone or data receiving device, which helps people with diabetes manage their condition more effectively.
