Linda Mwananchi is one of the rebel group within the ODM party, which has suffered from divisions as members support or oppose the President William Ruto and his bid for re-election in 2027.
Why is Sifuna separating from the ODM leadership?
The current leadership of the party, under Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, has been accepting Ruto, which has caused displeasure with the group led by Sifuna.

Along with Oburu is the national chairman of ODM and the Governor of Homa Bay Gladys Wangadeputy co-leader of the party Governors Abdulswamad Nassir (Mombasa) and Simba Arati (Kisii), together with Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed.
According to them, their decision to work with Ruto was approved by the deceased Raila Odinga after entering into a working contract with the head of state.
On the other hand, the group led by Sifuna opposes any cooperation with Ruto, saying that Raila did not accept it as claimed by their opponents within the party.
Apart from Sifuna, others in the group include Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
The rebels have been advancing their agenda against Ruto’s administration under the banner of “Protect the Citizen”, while Sifuna sometimes suggested the possibility of collaborating with the United Opposition to oppose Ruto’s leadership.
How Linda Mwananchi strengthens its support
Now they want to recruit loyal members to strengthen their party as they prepare to remove Ruto from office.
Sifuna asked Kenyans who are ready to stand in solidarity with Linda Mwananchi to register and give any form of support.
They have launched a website where supporters can register their membership.
Registration is available here.
According to Sifuna, the online directory will help their team gauge the level of support and plan accordingly for their 2027 mission.
This came a few days after Sifuna ignored the noise surrounding him and calls from some people to urge him to consider running for president.

He had attracted a lot of attention, especially due to his outspoken stance against the pro-government ODM group.
In his public speech, Sifuna made a strong criticism against Ruto’s administration, attracting many opponents.
Amid the anti-Ruto frenzy, Sifuna launched Linda Mwananchi’s campaign, which quickly gained popularity through rallies and social media.
Along with this, voices have increased urging him to pursue the presidency.
However, considering the actual political situation, Sifuna said he could not heed such a call without clear strategies and a thorough assessment.
He emphasized that elections are won through real votes, not online rumors.
Sifuna noted that he would only consider a presidential bid once he was assured that the bid would translate into votes.
He compared this to others who were persuaded to run for president, but were ultimately abandoned when the excitement and rumors finally died down.
