Webuye accident: A man lost his mother, 4 other relatives in an accident that killed 15 people

Bungoma: Sadness continues to spread across Webuye after 15 people were killed in a horrific accident at Malaha Junction along the Webuye-Kitale Highway.

The accident happened after the trailer hit the boda boda drivers on Monday, March 9.

According to witnesses, two boda boda drivers were involved in a fatal collision on the busy Webuye–Kitale Road.

Several residents rushed to save them but to luck many were injured, and many were killed after a trailer passing on the same road lost direction and hit them.

“In total, we received 31 people,” confirmed Dr. David Wakinina of Webuye County Hospital.

Why Webuye families are looking for help after the accident

Speaking after the tragedy, a man, Ezekiel Sipala, revealed that he lost four of his brothers and a neighbor in the tragic event.

“I have lost my mother, my three brothers, my cousin, and the neighbor who bought the land from us,” he said with strong emotion.

Residents complained about the loss, stressing the need for help to bury their relatives.

“As a family, we have been hit hard by this incident, and if we don’t get help we won’t be able to deal with this situation. At the moment, everyone is mourning at home,” said another resident.

The residents have asked the government to improve road safety in the area, including the installation of speed bumps to help reduce accidents.

At the same time, investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, while road safety organizations are urging drivers to follow traffic rules to prevent similar tragedies.

Will Bungoma county help the victims of the Webuye accident?

The deputy governor of Bungoma, Jenepher Mbatiany, also urged drivers to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding, and maintain a safe distance during his visit to 16 patients admitted to Webuye Hospital.

He warned residents against congregating at accident sites, noting that such areas can be very dangerous, especially along busy highways.

The deputy governor expressed his sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured patients a speedy recovery.

Furthermore, Mbatiany assured the victims that the county government will closely monitor the situation and work with health workers to ensure that the injured receive the best medical services.

Officials will also provide assistance to the victims of the accident.
