Kisumu: The Mother of the Child Killed by the Duale Caravan Afunguka, Says He Was an Only Son

Kiptoo was among the four people who died in a fatal accident involving the Minister of Health’s convoy Aden Duale.

The accident is said to have happened after one car in Duale’s convoy collided with two other cars while speeding, causing the fatal accident.

Many with serious injuries were rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for immediate treatment.

Kiptoo’s mother, Beatrice Cheptega, broke down in tears while speaking to journalists after receiving information about her son’s death. He revealed that Kiptoo was his only child, and his loss has left him childless and sad.

“I’ve lost all my children now. I don’t even have a place to bury Kiptoo. I’m in a lot of pain, and I’m told he was hit and killed by a government car. I’m asking the government to help me and my family,” he said with tears in his eyes.

As families mourned their loved ones, conflicting accounts emerged of what happened at Otonglo, the crash site.

While some residents confirmed that the accident was caused by a car in the caravan, the Ministry of Health issued a statement suggesting otherwise.

“Duale was in the car. He got out when the villagers started throwing stones at him and then got into another car,” said a resident.

Was Duale’s convoy involved in the accident?

According to the ministry, the CS only stopped at the scene to mobilize emergency medical aid for the victims:

“The convoy of the Minister of Health, Aden Duale, today stopped at the site of a road accident in the Otonglo area, near the Molasses Factory in Kisumu, where the Cabinet Secretary mobilized emergency treatment to help the victims. At the time of the incident, the Cabinet Secretary was traveling to Kisumu International Airport from Rarieda,” the statement said.

The ministry confirmed that immediate rescue efforts were coordinated, resulting in more than 19 casualties being transferred to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for immediate care.

Two people died at the scene, one died on the way to the hospital, and the other died while being treated.

In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that Rose Olang’o, died in an accident involving the security car of minister Aden Duale.

His family said he was traveling from Kisumu town to help his father sell traditional clothes and shoes at Otonglo Market when the accident happened.

Rose’s family has appealed for government assistance and compensation amid grief and loss.
