A meteorologist has announced that rain is expected to ease in most parts of the country in the next seven days, but warned that some areas may still experience heavy rain.
In its weather outlook for Tuesday, March 10 to Monday, March 16, released on Monday, March 9, the agency indicated that the country will get a break from the rains that have been hitting various areas.
The department explained that although the overall amount and amount of rain will decrease, several areas, especially in the southern half of the country, are still likely to receive rain.
It comes after several days of heavy rains in parts of Kenya that have caused flooding in several areas, disrupted transport, affected normal activities in some towns and left at least 40 people dead.
Which areas can still get heavy rain in Kenya?
According to the department, the change in weather conditions is indicating a decrease in rainfall activity across the country, although conditions remain favorable with occasional rains in selected areas.
Areas that may still experience isolated heavy rain include parts of Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Highlands including Nairobi, parts of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands and the South Coast.
“The rainfall rate is expected to decrease in area and air level in several parts of the country. However, occasional rains may continue in several areas in the southern parts of the country,” the meteorologist reported.
The weather agency warned residents in these areas to remain vigilant despite the expected decrease in rainfall.
They noted that heavy rain events in these areas can occur frequently, even if the broader national outlook shows much less rain compared to previous days.
“Isolated Heavy Rains despite the overall reduction, isolated heavy rain events may occur,” the meteorologist warned.
How much will temperatures drop in some areas?
On the Coast, occasional showers may continue along the South Coast even as daytime temperatures remain relatively high.
Along with the change in rainfall, the weather department also released a temperature outlook showing significant differences in different areas.

Daytime temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius are expected in several areas, including the Coast region, South-Eastern Lower Valley, as well as parts of North-East and North-West Kenya.
Warmer conditions in these areas are likely to continue throughout the forecast period as cloudiness decreases and precipitation decreases.

On the other hand, cooler night temperatures are expected in the highlands.
Temperatures are estimated to drop below 10 degrees Celsius in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley and the areas surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro.
“Night temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius are possible in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and the areas around Mount Kilimanjaro. Continue to get information through the official KMD platforms,” the weather department added.
What is the government doing about the flood situation?
In a related report, the government sent several security and emergency teams to support rescue efforts and evacuate flood-affected residents across the country.
The Ministry of Interior announced the move after more than 25 people were confirmed dead following the heavy rain that fell on March 6.
Nairobi recorded the most deaths, with bodies recovered from the Starehe and Kamukunji rivers, while others were washed away in Kibra.
