A near-death incident occurred in Emurua Dikirr on Friday, March 6, where mourners had gathered to bid farewell to the local MP, Johana Ngeno.

Hundreds of mourners traveled from various places to attend the funeral of the lawmaker, who died in a helicopter crash on February 28.
How heavy rain endangered the lives of mourners in Emurua Dikirr
Those who arrived in the morning were peaceful as there was no rain, but leaving turned into a disaster after the heavy rain that followed the funeral.
The Mogondo River bridge sank, making the road impassable.
Despite the dangerous condition of the road, drivers risked continuing their journeys, endangering the lives of passengers and other road users.
A school bus carrying mourners tried to cross the bridge and at first it seemed to be successful until the strong currents became too strong.
The driver was forced to stop, causing the passengers to escape through the windows with the help of onlookers.
No deaths or injuries were reported at the scene.
Emurua Dikirr was not the only host of flash floods on Friday.
In Nairobi, residents and drivers were left stranded after heavy rains.
How the floods destroyed Nairobi
The rain started in the afternoon, in line with the forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department, and rained non-stop for hours.
Drainage problems in Nairobi surfaced again as the city’s system failed to handle rainwater.
The Kenya Red Cross reported flooding in many areas, causing extensive damage and loss of property.
Flooding hit parts of the CBD roads, Uhuru Highway, Mbagathi Road, Mombasa Road, ThikaJogoo Road, Lunga Lunga Road, Enterprise Road, and Lang’ata Road near T-Mall.
Other townships affected include Pipeline, Embakasi, Mukuru, Kibra, Mathare, Huruma, Baba Dogo, Bosnia, South B, South C, Nairobi West, Lang’ata, Umoja 3, Chokaa, Njiru, Ruai, Utawala, Roysambu, Kahawa West, GithuraiLoresho, and parts of Westlands.

In response, the Kenya Red Cross sent teams to conduct search and rescue operations.
Flooding on the Independence Highway between Westlands Roundabout and University Way was severe.
Private cars and three the 33-seater sank, forcing passengers to form human chains to cross safely. Lang’ata Road and Mbagathi Road were overrun after the Mbagathi River overflowed, submerging two vehicles.
South C shopping centre, in Nairobi city centre, and roads near Yaya Center in Kilimani were also flooded.
Moja Expressway announced free access to the elevated road after Mombasa Road became impassable due to flooding and prolonged traffic jams.
Even the residents at home were affected when the flood waters entered, causing extensive damage.
