She announced the news of his death in a touching post on social media, describing the deep relationship they had and how her death had caused her grief and heartbreak.
Fans and colleagues have since sent their condolences and messages of support during this difficult time.
He shared a photo of himself and his grandfather hugging each other closely, with a Maasai sheet wrapped around his shoulders.
“I was dreading this day. Go to sleep,” he captioned the post.
In an earlier interview, Mwaka highlighted the relationship that his colleague and close friend, Lofty Matambo had formed with his grandfather.
Mwaka noted that he would travel to his home in the village to visit his grandfather.
“He will get up in the morning, take his car and go to visit my grandfather because he is already a son but not a son because he is my husband. I need to make that clear. A son because he is my brother,” he said.
