Moses Mudavadi, the eldest son of Prime CS, wants to represent Westlands constituency in the 13th Parliament.

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi is among the Westlands voters he has visited so far.

Ngunyi endorsed him, citing his bravery during the Dusit D2 terrorist attack in Nairobi in January 2019.

The analyst promised to encourage his close people to vote for Moses.

“I was visited by a young man who saved his brother when DUSIT was attacked by TERRORISTS. And I am worried that terrorists may attack us due to the IRAN war. This young man is a HERO of the war. He was doing a house-to-house campaign for Westlands parliament. His name is Moses Mudavadi. He has 12 of my votes. Is there a Question?”

Moses would be following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, the late Moses Mudamba Mudavadi.

It is not yet clear which party he will use to contest the elections.

He is expected to face, among others, the former president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Nelson Havi, who will try for the second time through the DCP party ticket.

Havi ran for the first time in 2022 through the ticket of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), but he was badly defeated by Tim Wanyonyi of ODM, who is serving his third term.

Wanyonyi will not defend the seat in 2027, after announcing his intention to run for the governorship of Bungoma county.

Many MPs from Bungoma County have announced their support for Wanyonyi.

The county has nine constituencies, and eight incumbent MPs have announced they will support him, saying he is the younger brother of the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula.

According to the MPs, Wanyonyi has shown the ability to lead Bungoma towards prosperity after the term of Governor Ken Lusaka, citing his leadership record in Westlands as well as empowerment programs in his home county.

MPs supporting him include John Waluke (Sirisia), John Makali (Kanduyi), Jack Wamboka (Bumula), Fred Kapondi (Mt. Elgon), Martin Wanyonyi (Webuye East), John Chikati (Tongaren), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), and Majimbo Kalasinga (Kabuchai).

Missing from the list is Didmus Barasa of Kimilili, who has long declared his intention to become the third governor of Bungoma since devolution began in 2013.

Wanyonyi, who is now serving his third term as MP for Westlands, has become a prominent figure in Nairobi politics and is increasingly being viewed as a national leader.

By profession, he is a lawyer, and was elected for the first time in 2013, and has gone on to win the seat through ODM tickets in subsequent elections.

He had previously set his sights on the governorship of Nairobi in 2022, but withdrew after the coalition of Declaration of Unity to support Polycarp Igathe of Jubilee.

Wanyonyi returned to defend his Westlands seat, and later revived his desire to run for Nairobi governorship, indicating the possibility of contesting in 2027 where he would face Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.

Wanyonyi and Babu are both influential members within ODM and have close ties to Raila Odingawhich makes the party’s ticket very competitive.

However, Wanyonyi’s move to Bungoma could pave the way for Babu in Nairobi politics.

In Bungoma, until now Didmus Barasa is considered as the leading candidate in the governorship race, while there have been no other major candidates who have announced their intentions.

Since Ken Lusaka is serving his last term, Wanyonyi’s entry into the race could pose a serious challenge to Barasa, given his political influence and leadership power.
