The Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament died along with Amos Kipngetich Rotich, a Kenya Forest Service official, journalist Nick Kosgei, teacher Carlos Keter, and pilot George Were.
Initial reports suggest that bad weather and low visibility may have contributed to the accident.
Witnesses said the pilot initially landed and consulted the weather before taking off again a short time later, when the helicopter crashed shortly after.
The death of those people has plunged the nation into deep mourning, with condolences pouring in from leaders, colleagues and families.
How have Kenyans mourned Nick Kosgei?
Among the most painful losses for many Kenyans is that of 25-year-old Kosgei, who was serving as Ngeno’s official photographer.
Friends and family have taken to social media to mourn, recounting their close relationship and the big plans he had for his future.
Previously leaked chats from the day of the crash revealed a conversation between Kosgei and his friend before he was taken off the plane. The messages later showed efforts to reach him after the news of the accident spread.

What plans did Nick Kosgei have?
More WhatsApp conversations have emerged, shedding more light on Kosgei’s ambitions beyond his role as a parliamentary photographer.
Candidate for parliament Nakuru West Frankline Ngeno shared screenshots of a private conversation dating back to July 2025.
In the conversation, Frankline contacted and sought help in designing a high quality poster to announce his bid to contest for the Nakuru West seat.

Kosgei responded positively, asking only for a clear image and specific details to be included in the design.
In one of those messages he hinted at how his communication work is growing: “Ok sir, as the job grew, I looked for a graphics person from the ministry (okay, sir, I looked for a graphics person from the ministry).
The message suggested that he had already begun to expand his operations by collaborating with other designers to meet the growing demand.
The conversation continued and eventually Kosgei produced a finished poster, which Frankline expressed satisfaction with.
The chatter that emerged painted a picture of a young professional determined to make a name for himself in the field of communications, venturing beyond his primary job as a parliamentary photographer.
His father also shared that Kosgei was the only investment in the family, making his untimely death all the more heartbreaking.
The revelation added a deeper context to his drive to take on additional projects and grow his brand.
Frankline mourned him as a dedicated and reliable professional.
“His dedication, humility, and loyalty will remain in our hearts. This loss is very painful, not only for his family and friends, but for all who knew and loved him,” part of his message read.

In another statement, a close friend of MP Ngeno, GK Kechwo, revealed the last message he received from the late MP.
According to him, Ngeno had sent him to the place where they were supposed to meet before boarding the ill-fated helicopter. For luck Unfortunately, Kechwo was late and missed the flight by only five minutes.
