In a statement issued on Saturday, February 28, the national airline explained that the decision was based on the closure of the UAE airspace.

“We want to inform our customers that we have temporarily suspended flights to Dubai and Sharjah until further notice due to the closure of the UAE airspace,” the airline said.

KQ confirmed that four passenger flights were affected and apologized to travelers who experienced the disruption, assuring them of timely updates as the situation develops.

The airline noted that the move was necessary to protect passengers and crew.

“For that reason, and for the safety of our customers and staff, we have canceled flights KQ310, KQ305, KQ311, KQ304 and cargo. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding. We will contact and communicate directly with the affected customers and provide them with the necessary assistance. As this is an ongoing situation, we will provide new information as soon as new information is available,” the statement added.

The world’s major airlines, including Qatar Airways, Etihad and Emirates, also suspended their flights pending a return to stability and advice from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

The suspension followed Israel’s attack on Iran, which led to the closure of airspace across the Middle East, including the UAE.

In response, Iran launched missile strikes that caused explosions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, targeting US bases and allied facilities inside the Emirates.

Early on Saturday, explosions rocked central Tehran after Israel confirmed it had launched a missile attack on Iran.

Reports from local media said several explosions were heard across the capital, with shells hitting University Street and the Jomhouri district. Meanwhile, other attacks were reported in the northern and eastern parts of the city.

One missile struck near the offices associated with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, whose location was not known amid claims that he had been moved to a safe area.

Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, admitted responsibility for the operation and declared a state of national emergency, saying the attack was intended to reduce threats against Israel.

Air raid sirens sounded in major cities, schools and workplaces were ordered closed except for essential services, and citizens were advised to stay near bomb shelters.

Israel’s Airports Authority also closed the country’s airspace to civilian traffic, underscoring fears of swift retaliation from Iran.
