Nandi’s relative detained in Myanmar tells the agent who promised him a job in Malaysia: “I need help”

  • Kosgei explained that he was promised a well-paying driving job in Malaysia by an agent who convinced him that better opportunities awaited him in Asia.
  • In the video, he said that although he initially arrived in Malaysia, he was later smuggled to Myanmar without being informed about the change of destination.

A man from Nandi who is detained in Myanmar has made an urgent request for help to return home as he tells how he was deceived by an agent who told him that he was sending him to work in Malaysia.

Kosgei, who is currently being held by Myanmar authorities, said the agent told him he had found a job as a driver in Malaysia, and was excited to travel to Asia in search of a better life.

In a video that is going viral on TikToknoted that instead he was sent to Myanmar, and since his arrival he has experienced many hardships and challenges that he did not expect.

Kosgei said he had to run to the police after the place where he had found work was raided, which threatened his safety.

“I am from Nandi County and now all I need is help to return home. I came here through an agent who scammed me. He told me I was reporting to work in Malaysia. I arrived in Malaysia, but I was brought to Myanmar. I was supposed to be a driver, but I was deceived. I have gone through so many challenges, and I had to seek help from the police,” he said.

Many Kenyans were moved after watching Kosgei’s video and are hopeful that he will get the help he needs to return home.

Others shared their experience of losing hundreds of thousands of shillings to fraudulent agents who promised them high-paying jobs abroad.

@Kiplangat said: “Myanmar is poorer than Kenya, and there is war there. Sometimes we need to get the right information and stop the desire to fly without knowing the truth.”

@Kiptoo: “Dennis, it’s time to give full details and the nature of your contract. Give us the details of this story and mention who the agent is.”

@Doll: “But Kenyans don’t listen. Even now you will hear someone being called to go there, and he will just go. Then others believe that European countries have real agents, you will cry.”

@Arwonga: “From what I’ve heard, foreigners in Myanmar are kidnapped by gangs after being promised a job and forced to work in scam centers. Later, if you’re not productive, they can hurt you. Get informed before you travel.”

Kenyans stuck in Cambodia go to court

In other news, TUKO.co.ke recently reported on more than 600 Kenyans stranded in Cambodia who filed a case at the High Court of Kenya in Nairobi, seeking emergency orders to compel the government to facilitate their rescue and immediate repatriation.

They revealed that they were arrested following a search by Cambodian officials, and efforts to contact the Kenyan embassy were unsuccessful.

They are seeking an order directing the Directorate of Immigration Services to prepare and fully cover the costs of their emergency evacuation, including airfare and other necessary travel expenses.
