It was not immediately clear where the video was recorded, but TUKO.co.ke understands that Gachagua has been on a three-day campaign in the Gusii region, including Kisii and Migori counties, since Monday, February 23.
The video, which has been widely circulated online, showed the former Deputy President wearing the colors of the DCP party: a purple cap and a long puffer jacket.
Gachagua was seen talking to the health worker, but his voice could not be heard.
The sound of the video was changed to a song.
The video was clearly recorded by someone inside the pharmacy.
The Board of Pharmacists Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) has condemned the shop and its employees for violating the right to privacy and confidentiality of Gachagua’s health information.
“Everyone who needs medicine or professional advice has the right to respect, privacy and protection of their personal health information. Confidentiality in health services is not optional; it is a basic moral and professional obligation,” said the community in a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke.
They promised to investigate the matter further and take disciplinary action against the pharmacist if found guilty.
“At this point, it is not yet clear which licensed professionals were present at the relevant facility. PSK is conducting a detailed investigation to confirm the identity and license status of the facility and the professionals involved so that appropriate legal and regulatory measures can be taken if necessary,” read part of the statement signed by the president of PSK, Dr. Wairimu Mbogo.
The community regretted the incident and promised to take the necessary steps to ensure that health centers are run by qualified and licensed professionals to avoid similar incidents in the future.
“Regardless of a person’s status or fame, every Kenyan has the right to confidential health services. Therefore, we express our regret about the privacy violation that occurred. This incident highlights the great importance of ensuring that pharmacies are run under the supervision of qualified and licensed professionals who understand and adhere to ethical standards,” added Dr. Mbogo.
