Ruth Odinga, Caroli Omondi among the rebel ODM MPs were appointed to the main parliamentary committees

  • The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has started taking disciplinary measures against MPs who oppose the coalition government
  • Senior opposition leaders, including Kisumu women’s representative Ruth Odinga and Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, were removed from influential committees in parliament.
  • The Minority Leader in the National Assembly, Junet Mohamed, warned those who oppose the party’s position of more harm in the near future.

Nairobi – ODM has officially started expelling MPs who appear to support Linda Mwananchi’s wing.

On Tuesday, February 24, the party began to remove members of parliament who allegedly opposed the direction of the party regarding the cooperation of the coalition government.

Was Caroli Omondi punished by ODM?

ODM MPs opposed to the coalition government were removed from influential committees in the National Assembly and transferred to less influential committees, while government loyalists appear to be consolidating their control.

Caroli Omondi, who was recently named secretary general of Declaration of Unitywas removed from the powerful Committee on the Implementation and Oversight of the Constitution.

His place was taken by Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba, who recently left the opposition camp and rejoined the President’s side William Ruto.

Ruth Odinga was sent to which committee?

Ruth Odinga was removed from the Agriculture Committee and transferred to the Parliamentary Services and Facilities Committee, which is considered to have less influence.

Ruth, who is the sister of the former Prime Minister Raila Odingahas been a leading critic of the coalition government.

He has publicly shown his support for the challenging Secretary General, Edwin Sifunaabout the future of the party towards the 2027 General Election.

Kitutu Chache South MP Antony Kibagendi, another fierce critic of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance administration, was removed from the powerful Public Investment Committee on Governance and Education.

Kibagendi was replaced by Kasipul Member of Parliament, Boyd Were, who is considered a young politician.

Leaders who support the coalition government said the change is just the beginning of more measures to be taken against those who oppose the party’s position.

“I would like to go back to being a kiranja, I was dangerous. Those who play with the party, I would shave them without water. I give a warning. Anyone who does not respect the party’s position will give up his committee position and be given a lower position, let them know that it is the party that gives those positions,” said Junet Mohamed.

How did Ruth Odinga defend Edwin Sifuna?

Ruth strongly defended Sifuna regarding his remarks on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between President William Ruto and the late Raila Odinga.

He questioned why Sifuna was allegedly attacked by paid bloggers for highlighting the issues contained in the MoU.

The Kisumu women’s representative questioned the source of funds used in Linda Ground meetings led by party leader Oburu Oginga.

Ruth wondered why Sifuna is being insulted for publicly admitting that ODM did not use its money to hire helicopters, tents and branded T-shirts for recent rallies.

He claimed that the Kenyan Kwanza government may be funding ODM’s activities.
