“It is with great pain and sadness that AFC/M23 announces the death of Comrade Willy Ngoma, a military spokesman within the political coordination. Comrade Willy Ngoma, a military spokesman, was taken from life under terrible circumstances,” M23 said in a statement obtained by TUKO.co.ke.
He was killed in an army drone attack near Rubaya, in North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
What did the M23 rebels say about the killing of Ngoma?
The area has seen heavy fighting since Sunday, February 22, forcing hundreds of families to flee.
The attack occurred as fighting continued despite the agreement reached between Kinshasa and M23, underscoring the weakness of peace efforts in the region.
The agreement was signed in Doha to establish a joint ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanism involving Qatar, the United States, and the African Union as observers.
“In response to these harsh actions, AFC/M23 calls on the national and international community to witness what it describes as the Kinshasa administration’s blatant disregard for its commitments, especially the Doha Framework Agreement.
AFC/M23 offers its sincere condolences to the entire revolutionary community of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and to the biological family of the one who dedicated his entire life to the struggle for social justice and peaceful coexistence among all Congolese,” AFC/M23 said.
