Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has explained why he was crying after their recent Carabao Cup defeat against Arsenal.

Kai Havertz scored a last minute goal at the Emirates Stadium to beat the hosts at the expense of his former team.
The result meant Arsenal won the Carabao Cup semi-final 4-2 on aggregate and reached their first cup final in five years.
Why Fofana cried after their match against Arsenal
After the game, Fofana was seen wiping away tears while the players Chelsea leaving the field. The French defender started and lasted the whole game in a new back three from Liam Rosenior.
Fofana has now explained why the result touched him, explaining that he needed to win the cup with the club.
“I was very emotional. I haven’t won a title with Chelsea. My teammates have won titles, but I wasn’t there. It affected me because I want to win a trophy this year,” he told Telefoot via GFFN.
The 25-year-old has been at the club since 2022, where the club have won two titles under Enzo Maresca. However, he was left out of the Conference League squad last season to manage his injuries. He was also not included in the Club World Cup squad, as he had a hamstring injury at the time.

The former Leicester City defender has struggled with injuries during his time at Chelsea, including tearing his ACL and suffering numerous setbacks.
“Seasons when I thought it was the right season, that I came back… but everything went wrong. When you come back, you doubt everything, you tell yourself that you are not the same player anymore, that you have lost everything.”
Can Chelsea win the cup this season?
After being eliminated from the Carabao Cup and relegated to the Premier League, Fofana will be hoping they can win the FA Cup or the Champions League.
They are in the fifth round of the FA Cup, where they are set to face Wrexham, while they are in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. They will play one of Newcastle United, Monaco or defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Fofana will miss Chelsea’s return to the Emirates this weekend after being sent off against Burnley at the weekend.
He received two yellow cards, and Burnley ended up equalizing in the dying minutes as they dropped the most points in the league.
He was later subjected to racial abuse, which the club and the Premier League strongly condemned.
