How a UDA Kakamega politician was attacked in a church
A group of people stormed the church where Asiko was attending a fundraising event with several other prominent politicians, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa.
Haya later took him out while Wetang’ula and Barasa watched helplessly.
Addressing journalists after the incident, Asiko, who is vying for the Kakamega County Member of Parliament seat in 2027 on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, claimed that the assailants attacked him.
“I saw five men coming to me when I was sitting. They took me out by force, where they started beating me,” the politician said.
However, he noted that the police officers who had been sent to provide protection in the church saved him from the hands of the hooligans and escorted him to safety.
Asiko also noted that some Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) who were present protected him from the attackers.
According to the young politician, the attack was linked to his opposition to some politicians in the county.
“Those who attacked me are known, and we know who sent them,” Asiko said even as he insisted that he had never participated in dirty politics that would have led to attacks by thugs.
“I have not insulted anyone (I have never insulted anyone); I do not understand why they decided to expel me from the church,” he added.
Asiko is campaigning for the re-election of the President William Ruto even when he announces his desire to be a woman’s representative after defecting from the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).
