In an interview with KTN News on Wednesday, February 18, Ruth said Sifuna is certainly not breaking any of the foundations of the ODM party as planned by the late former prime minister Raila Odinga.
That member of parliament Poisonous he revealed that he was among some members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) who strongly criticized the removal of Sifuna.
“No, I don’t think he has done that. On my part, Ruth Odinga, I support Edwin Sifuna in what he is doing. But what the party feels is something else. I am one of the people who criticized his removal. I criticized his removal and I thought that the proper procedure and the reasons for it should be presented,” said Ruth.
According to Ruth, the ODM party led by Oburu Oginga did not follow the correct procedures when removing Sifuna as general secretary.
He explained that the party should have given the popular Nairobi senator a chance to defend himself against accusations before making a decision.
“The party should have a proper procedure. Edwin Sifuna had his rights and in fact he is the General Secretary and if there are any disciplinary issues concerning Edwin Sifuna, he would also be given the right to explain his side. Even in Shakahola, we had Shakahola and we had people who were accused. They were given the opportunity to speak as well. So for me, I have a clear position regarding the matter of Edwin Sifuna,” he noted.
Ruth insisted that Sifuna should go through the party’s processes, including mediation, reconciliation and other internal structures, before being removed.
Indirectly referring to outside intervention, Ruth said if ODM took its own steps, the current conflicts could be resolved.
“Edwin Sifuna should go through the party’s procedures because this is a party with structures; Even if there are issues that are considered disciplinary, the party must finish using all the mechanisms – mediation, reconciliation and other internal structures – before taking any action. That is where I come from. So for me on that issue, I was clear that we should use all the structures, and ODM has the best structures. We have established structures that could be used before removing him,” he said.
