Machakos – Four people have been confirmed dead following a fatal accident on the Matuu-Mwingi road.

On Sunday, February 15, three police officers and one civilian were killed after the police car they were traveling in overturned.
According to the police report, the patrol car driven by Peter Maina had five people, including one citizen.
“The accident happened today around 14:00 on the Matuu-Mwingi road in the area of Mwatungo, about 10 kilometers west of the station, involving a car with number no. GKB167Y Ford Ranger of the Nguutani Police Station driven by 235543 PC Peter Maina, with license plate number 134 Karanja 328 and 7. PC Nicholas Chemase, number 118003 PC Kibet Tanui and one citizen, who is Joseph Nzumbi, aged 30 years,” the police read.
The car that had gone to catch it lost control and rolled several times near Mwatungo Primary School, a few kilometers from Kithyoko market along Matuu-Mwingi Road.
One officer died on the spot, while the second officer died after being rushed to Kithyoko Level Three hospital.
The third officer was transferred to Matuu Hospital Level Four but died on arrival. The citizen also died when he arrived at the station.
“The car was coming from Kanyonyo where the police had gone to arrest him, but unfortunately the accused could not be found, and when they arrived at Mwatungo area, the car had a mechanical problem where the left front wheel locked and the car left the road to the right and rolled several times. The accident happened in an area that had previously recorded an accident. Last week, a high school teacher died in the same area after losing control of his motorcycle.
