Sarah Elderkin, renowned journalist and late multi-day biographer Raila Odingahas come out to strongly defend Ruth Odinga, describing her as the true ideological heir of her brother’s political legacy.

With the Orange⁠ Democratic Movement (ODM) facing an internal “crisis” following Raila’s death, Elderkin is running for the County Woman Representative Poisonous he is more of a family member like Raila in spirit, behavior and principles.

Elderkin recalls their shared experience in 1992, during Raila’s first bid for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat.

While in the proxy elections, the two women faced three days of intense tension at the counting hall against the incumbent, Philip Leakey, and the rival KANU machine.

During the time he became part of the Odinga family story, the atmosphere of anxiety increased when L’ea⁠key, in a rage when faced with defeat, made the contemptuous claim that Ruth and Elderkin were hiding votes in their underwear. While the armed soldiers were shaking, Ruth did not give up.​

He confronted Leakey in a heated argument that became so heated that the subject even slapped him.

Elderkim describes him as “courageous” and “principled,” noting that he remained a firebrand even after spending years in exile while Raila was incarcerated.
