Baba Levo: Tanzanian Member of Parliament Announces Plans to Join the First Form

The singer-turned-politician won the Kigoma Urban parliamentary seat during the 2025 general election in the country Tanzania.

His level of education was a topic during his campaigns under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi.

During the Q&A session with the voters, a question about his English skills sparked a heated debate, with Levo boldly defending his language skills.

Despite the challenge, he put the crowd at ease, emphasizing his experience of international travel and his ability to communicate effectively in English. Levo seemed annoyed by the question and asked the audience to ask more ‘constructive’ questions.

On Wednesday, February 11, the member of parliament, who has a primary school level education, held a press conference announcing that he has joined the school.

According to Levo, despite being successful, reaching primary school is the only thing that always bothers him.

He noted that he lost his job at Wasafi FM because of his level of education.

“I was removed from the radio due to the lack of certificates. I was giving them money, which could have paid other workers more than 27, but they needed certificates. My talent needed support from certificates, which I did not have. Since I left the station, it has never been the same.”

Levo revealed that Diamond Platnumz he is fully paying for his education.

“To my constituents, I know people will mock you, saying your member of parliament is starting the first form. Don’t worry. I will finish school while carrying out my duties, which include building schools and markets.”

Levo noted that the move was strategic.

“In the future, if you want to re-elect me and there is a new constitution that requires a member of parliament to have certificates, I will be ready. If they say that a member of parliament needs a degree, they will have gone too far.”

Levo noted that he would take private lessons but would occasionally attend school. Then he showed his registration documents.
