Seemingly unperturbed by the progress in the party, Sifuna invited his followers to the meeting this Sunday, February 15.
Other prominent political figures expected at the meeting include ODM rebels who are breaking away from the broad-based team, among them the governor of Siaya James OrengoEmbakasi East MP Babu Owino, Vihiga senator Godfrey Osotsi, Kisii senator Richard Onyonka and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi.
Sifuna’s removal came as a highlight of the ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by party leader Oburu Oginga in Mombasa on Wednesday, February 11.
Why was Edwin Sifuna fired from the post of ODM secretary general
The party cited Sifuna’s disagreement with the party’s position on important issues, including ODM’s collaboration with Ruto.
According to the NEC, ODM operates under a defined constitution, rule of law, and collective decisions made through its established bodies.
It said it had reviewed Sifuna’s conduct and concluded that his tenure as party secretary general was no longer valid.
Therefore, the women’s representative of kiss Catherine Omanyo, who was one of Sifuna’s deputies, was given the duties of secretary-general on a temporary basis until the main holder of the post is found.
The removal of Sifuna, the party said, was in line with its constitution and procedures.
Meanwhile, the NEC resolved that the National Delegates Conference (NDC) would be convened in Nairobi on March 27, where important decisions of the party would be approved.
The day Edwin Sifuna predicted his departure from ODM
Sifuna’s removal from his post came seven months after he vowed to step down if ODM insists on partnering with UDA in the 2027 presidential election.
Unlike the position of the party leader at that time, the late Raila OdingaSifuna spoke out against Ruto, warning Kenyans against re-electing him.

For his position, some ODM members asked him to resign.
However, he insisted that he had not considered resigning and expressed hope that he could eventually persuade Raila to take a more analytical view of Ruto and align with those who oppose the president.
Despite his determination to remain in power, Sifuna admitted that he would leave if the party leadership wanted him to.
He stressed that the role of secretary-general was not his forever, describing it as an honor to serve, and said that many young ODM members could take up the position as he did when he was appointed at the age of 35.
At the same time, he made it clear that he would voluntarily resign if Raila officially endorsed Ruto’s bid for re-election, saying such a decision would have no personal basis.
Sifuna opposed ODM’s support for Ruto, saying that the party had a great chance of forming the next government, warning that supporting the current president would be a mistake.
