In a letter obtained by TUKO.co.ke, the removal of the party occurred just a few days before the party’s national elections scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, amid rumors of changes that could affect the party’s top leaders.

The rumors indicate growing internal disputes about the future direction of the party ahead of the 2027 elections, where one group supports President William Ruto’s bid to be re-elected under a broad plan, while the other group, led by the party’s general secretary Edwin Sifunarefusing to support Ruto and insisting that the party must field a presidential candidate in the next general election.

Why was Caleb Amisi thrown out of NEC?

The letter, signed by NEC director Eduor Ong’wen, said that Amisi was required to leave the committee following his election as ODM chairman for Trans Nzoia county.

“We are writing to officially recognize and congratulate you for your election as ODM chairman for Trans Nzoia county following the county’s local elections that ended recently. Your election is a clear manifestation of the trust and confidence placed in you by the members of the party, and we congratulate you on this important step.

As you know, your election to this county office has a constitutional effect on your current position within the party. According to Article 92 of the party’s constitution, which clearly states that ‘all officers of the party shall not hold more than one office in the party,’ your taking the office of the county chairman ipso facto extinguishes your membership as deputy national organizing secretary in the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party,” the letter read.
