As reported by the Daily Monitor newspaper Ugandapolice spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma named the suspects as Allan Isabirye, Rahman Mulondo, Zubair Makaire and Sharif Egesa.

“The four suspects were arrested for pretending to be Natasha Karugire, the First Daughter of the Honorable President, on various social networks,” Kituuma said, adding that they will soon be brought to court.

The investigation was launched after Karugire filed a formal complaint at the CID headquarters, alerting the authorities about fraudulent accounts being run in his name.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects targeted people seeking financial assistance, demanding money disguised as registration and processing fees.

“We tracked using our internet capabilities and found several mobile phones and SIM cards believed to have been used to carry out the fraud,” Kituuma said.

Police also warned the public against engaging in services advertised on social media, especially those linked to visas, passports and national identity documents.

“Never pay registration or processing fees through social media. It is a loose platform and very easy for scammers to prey on unsuspecting Ugandans. Always verify information before taking action,” Kituuma warned.
