Elsewhere, a former member of parliament is being detained by the police for alleged involvement in car theft in Murang’a County.
1. Daily Nation
This newspaper reports about detectives from the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arresting the former Member of Parliament for Mwea, Peter Gitau for allegedly being involved in the theft of vehicles, including a truck said to belong to the Murang’a county government.
Central Regional Criminal Investigation Officer Abraham Mugambi confirmed that Gitau was arrested on Friday, February 7, along with three others.
This is the second arrest of the group, which was previously brought to court on similar charges two weeks ago.
Mugambi noted that officers from the Operations Support Unit recovered two stolen trucks. “The cars were stolen in Gatanga on August 16, 2025,” he said and added that intelligence from the Crime Research Institute led to the arrest of five suspects; Gitau, Mark Kinyua, Erick Chege, David Kigo, and Joseph Ndung’u Waweru.
In the previous case, Senior Resident Magistrate Eric Analo gave a bond of KSh 500,000 or an alternative bond of KSh 1 million with a surety.
He refused the request DCI to detain the suspects for 21 more days, saying that “continuing detention without formal charges would violate the men’s constitutional rights.”
2. Nation Today
This newspaper reports on the case filed by the lawyer against the President William Ruto about the political meetings held at the White House.
Lempaa Soyinka filed a court case to stop Ruto and his party UDA to hold political meetings in the State House or other government lodges.
The lawyer said in the case submitted to the Supreme Court that the use of the Palace by the UDA for political meetings, political sessions, candidate workshops and party organizing activities is equivalent to non-financial benefits and unannounced donations under Article 14 of the Political Parties Act.
4. The Standard
The Standard took the opportunity to highlight the resolution of the Council of Governors (CoG) for its members to boycott the summons of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts of the Senate County on allegations of extortion and abuse.

The governors accused members of the committee led by chairman Moses Kajwang, Taita Senator Taveta Jones Mwaruma, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei for being abused when they appeared before the management committees.
They warned that they will boycott the meetings of the Senate County Public Accounts Committee and the Senate County Public Investment and Special Finance Committee unless their grievances are resolved.
The Chairman of the Council of Governors (COG) Ahmed Abdullahi, speaking after the break in Kilifi, expressed concern over what he termed the ongoing and increasing graft, political witch-hunt, harassment, intimidation and humiliation of governors.
“Consequently, the Council of Governors has resolved that the governors will not appear before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts of the County until our concerns are addressed through the collaboration developed between the leadership of the Senate,” Abdullahi said.
