The case has caused a lot of shock and sadness for a life that was suddenly cut short by the confusing details that appeared in court.

When did the Nyandwaro road rage happen?

Joseph Nyandwaro, a native of Kisii, Kenya, was sentenced by Gloucester County Superior Court Judge William Ziegler after pleading guilty to second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

NJ.com reports that at the time of the incident, the 41-year-old was living in Pearland, Texas, and working as a long-haul truck driver.

The court was informed that the incident occurred on June 22, 2025, when Nyandwaro was driving a trailer north through Woolwich Township.

He was involved in a violent confrontation with another truck driver, Osman Aden, 40, of Minnesota and what started as a dispute on the highway ended in tragedy.

How the CCTV tape buried Nyandwaro

According to prosecutors and the New Jersey State Police, witnesses saw Nyandwaro repeatedly blocking Aden from passing him.

CCTV footage later confirmed that Nyandwaro deliberately hit Aden’s trailer, forcing it into a concrete barrier on the left side of the road.

The impact caused Aden’s car to run out of control. He was killed at the scene.

Aden’s death saddened his family and fellow drivers, many of whom described him as a hardworking man.

In court, his loss was not just framed as a traffic death, but as an irreversible consequence of anger allowed to escalate.

Nyandwaro laughed after the accident

The case took a different turn when detectives showed a video from inside Nyandwaro’s taxi, which captured the incident, and recorded Nyandwaro laughing as he left the scene.

It remains unclear whether he knew immediately that his co-driver was dead, but authorities said he made no attempt to stop or call for help.

How long is Nyandwaro’s sentence?

Investigators said he tried to cover up the damage with tape and cleaning supplies, and initially lied to his employer about being completely involved.

It was the trucking company’s cooperation with the police, including handing over camera footage, that helped investigators trace Nyandwaro’s movements and confirm what happened.

He surrendered to authorities a few days later. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped additional charges, including leaving the scene of a fatal accident and tampering with evidence in exchange for Nyandwaro’s guilty plea.

They agreed to a six-year sentence, of which he will be required to serve at least 85% of that time before being eligible for parole.

When the sentence was handed down, the court reflected on the human cost of the crime, the family was left devastated, a life ended in a few seconds, and another completely defined by a moment of reckless rage.

A Kenyan is sentenced to life imprisonment in the United States

Cholo Abdi Abdullah is another Kenyan who is serving a prison sentence in the United States after being sentenced to life imprisonment in December 2025.

According to the US Department of Justice, Abdi was charged with multiple crimes, including conspiring to provide and providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

He was also found guilty of conspiring to kill US citizens, to commit aircraft piracy, to destroy aircraft, and to commit acts of terrorism that cross national borders.
