Detectives from Kilifi South Sub-County, working with intelligence, quickly took action to remove the suspects from their hideouts in Vipingo.

The first group of suspects, identified as Mustafa Majeza Juma, Bubbline Kitsao Kazungu, and Abdul Mwatondo Matano, were arrested after an extensive operation in a private residence.

Police found numerous items believed to be linked to multiple crimes, including six mobile phones, eight different national ID cards, two Somali swords, two swords, and a cash bail receipt in the name of Mustafa Majeza Juma.

Investigators noted that the receipt was linked to a case of attempted robbery and violence for which Juma had an active arrest warrant.

While under interrogation, the three led the suspects to other accomplices, leading to the arrest of Swale Mwarauka, Mohammed Juma, and Hamisi Rama in the second hideout.

A search of the area revealed 18 large rolls of marijuana, a weighing scale, and KSh7,000 in cash, which are reported to be the proceeds of criminal activity.

“All six suspects were taken to the Mtwapa Police Station for processing and later brought to court. Makachero was given a 14-day detention order to complete the investigation, while the authorities tighten the ropes against violent crimes and ensure that the suspects face the full force of the law,” said the DCI.

The Mtwapa robbery is part of a worrying trend of violent crime across the coast, which has prompted a swift response from law enforcement.

According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the attack involved a shop owner being attacked by armed men, an incident captured on CCTV which proved to be crucial in tracking down the suspects.

Elsewhere, the NPS highlighted a crime in Tononoka Mombasa where two suspects were arrested after attacking a security guard with crude weapons.

“The National Police Service is strong in dealing with crimes of any kind under the law. We thank the public for providing useful information, showing the power of social cooperation in protection,” the NPS statement read.
