ODM Throws Oketch Salah In Kikagoni, They Say They Don’t Know Him And What He Does Doesn’t Concern Them He Is On His Own

Nairobi: In a sudden change, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has publicly distanced itself from Migori businessman Oketch Salah.

In a statement, issued shortly after midnight on Saturday, February 7, by the national chairman of ODM Gladys Wangathe Orange party announced that Salah’s political activities are purely personal and not endorsed by the party.

This comes amid growing confusion over the primary activities of the former prime minister’s son Raila Odinga aimed at mobilizing young people.

“The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) wishes to clarify that any activities, statements, or activities carried out by Mr. Oketch Salah are done in his personal capacity and do not represent or bind the Orange Democratic Movement in any way,” the statement read in part.

The Homa Bay county boss added that all party programs must be passed through the party secretariat under the guidance of ODM party leader, Siaya senator Oburu Oginga.

Wanga’s decision to publicly dissociate ODM from Salah’s activities followed heavy scrutiny after his recent event at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) named Linda Comrades.

During the meeting, participants wore ODM branded t-shirts while wearing caps with the President’s image William Rutothe leader of the UDA party.

What did ODM tell its lower level officials?

ODM’s late night statement aimed to provide a firm line, warning grassroots leaders, members and supporters against organizing activities in the name of the party without prior consultation.

Wanga also described his advice to lower-level party officials as an attempt to restore discipline within ODM ranks ahead of upcoming activities.

“Therefore, grassroots leaders, members, and supporters are advised that no activities should be planned or carried out in the name of ODM without prior consultation and approval from the party leadership and secretariat. The party remains committed to stability, discipline, and organized participation in the pursuit of its goals,” he added.

Who is the Migori businessman, Oketch Salah?

In a related report, Salah decided to clarify his relationship with Raila as the public scrutinized him.

During the charity event, Salah said he was born and raised in Migori in a business family and did not grow up in Raila’s family.

He explained that they met later in his adult life, describing the ODM leader as a mentor who treated him like a son, adding that Raila was regarded as a father figure by many Kenyans.

Salah recounted that the “adopted son” tag emerged after Raila sent him to represent him at Dalmus Otieno’s funeral.

He said he had questioned the ability of him to attend, and Raila told him he would go as his adopted son.

He also ignored allegations of misunderstanding with Raila’s daughter, Winnie Odingainsisting that they continued to have a good relationship.
