Peter Kibui narrated that it all started when he met a businessman who was a distant friend, while he was on his way home at 10 pm in the Uthiru area; he described the businessman as rich and well-connected, and asked to speak to him about ‘work’.

Speaking to the chief producer of TUKO, King’ori Wangechi, Peter said that since it was evening, he suggested that they meet him the next day so that he could learn more about the work.

“This was December 2023. I met him the next day, and that’s when he told me that his brother was facing legal problems because of his ex-wife. He told me that his ex-wife had been persuaded by his friend to accuse his brother of a crime. I wondered what any of his family problems had to do with me, and that’s when he told me that he wanted me to be hired as an assassin to kill his ex-wife’s friend by intervening,” he said.

The prospect of making more money than he had ever made in his life excited him, and so he accepted, but he felt conflicted about his Christian faith.

He also later spoke to his religious mother, who forbade him to engage in such work.

However, he thought that since he was already involved in the plot to kill the woman, his life was already in danger, and so a few months later, in March 2024, he met the businessman again, and accepted the job.

When Peter met the businessman in March 2024, he was in no position to turn down the assassin’s job. He was struggling with debt, and the money was an easy way out of his financial problems.

“I met the businessman in his car, and he revealed that he had previously hired four other people to kill the woman, but they did not succeed. He told me to be careful in the killing, claiming that the woman had spirits protecting her because all his efforts to kill her were in vain,” he added.

During the meeting, Peter received KSh 70,000 in cash to plan and complete the work. He recalled that he was excited to receive such a large amount, which he lost after a few days.

The man said he decided to approach his victim in the store and revealed that he had been hired to kill her. Peter said he couldn’t kill her, especially after he found out she was a nursing mother with a four-month-old baby.

“So together, we came up with a plan to fake his death, so I would look like I had done the job,” he said.

They produced a video showing that Peter had taken her hostage, tied her up and made her apologize before killing her. Then he pretended to be dead, and took a picture.

“I took his pictures and video and edited them to make it look like I killed him. Those were the pictures I shared with the contractor who believed I had killed him,” he said, adding that he ended up receiving an additional KSh 150k after he lied to him about completing the job.

Through Peter’s help, the woman left the city to Meru to hide, so that the merchant would believe that she had been dead for some time.

Peter also gave him a large amount of money from blood money of KSh 150k, advising him to go and start farming, and not to return to Nairobi.

However, soon after, the businessman found out that Peter had lied to him.

“However, he found out that I lied. He confronted me about me when I went to demand the final payment, and told me that I did not kill him. I was so shocked that I had to leave the city immediately to hide because I knew I was in danger,” he added.

He said he vowed to protect the woman, even if it meant his death.

TUKO also reached the woman rescued by Peter, and she confirmed that he saved her life and helped her flee to her home in the countryside.

However, he decided to return to Nairobi later, saying he felt it was unfair to live his whole life in hiding, because of the threat to his life.

He said he could not report the matter to the police because of the man’s relationship with the authorities.
