The Union Party of Umoja-One Kenya has announced a major change in leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper Patriotic Front was appointed as the new leader of the coalition party, in a move that marks a new phase for the opposition party.
The change was approved during a meeting of the National General Assembly chaired by the former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

In the same session, Member of Parliament for Suba North, Caroli Omondi, was appointed secretary general, taking the place of Member of Parliament for Suna East, Junet Mohammedwho had held that influential position since the formation of the union.

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties confirmed that the meeting was held on Monday, February 2, following an official notice issued on January 29.
Registrar John Cox Lorionokou said the union followed the necessary procedures in convening the Resolution Council and the General Council of the National Union.
“This office acknowledges receipt of your letter of February 2 on the joint meeting of the Resolution Council and the General Council of the National Union on February 2,” the registrar said in a letter addressed to the leadership of the union.
According to the registrar, Junet Mohammed was officially notified in writing about his removal from the position of general secretary.
The union was further advised to announce changes in its leadership structure in accordance with Section 20 of the Political Parties Act, Chapter 7D, which governs the party’s internal governance and transparency.
This comes months after the death of the former Azimio leader Raila Odingawho ran for the presidency under the coalition in 2022 without success.
