Why did Gachagua threaten to cancel the interview?

Gachagua, who spoke on many regional and national issues during the media engagement, changed his tone and reprimanded the broadcaster when asked to clarify the allegations linking him to the President’s camp William Ruto.

He stopped for a moment and looked at the interviewer, thinking how to answer his question, respectively and finally.

He leaned back, and when he gathered his thoughts, he told the reporter that he would have walked out of the interview if he hadn’t been a member of his tribe.

“You are lucky you are a member of my tribe, I would finish the interview and ask you to leave. Do not provoke me and break my heart. I cannot work with William Ruto,” replied the former deputy president.

He accused the president of weakening the economy, mismanaging education and health, and ordering the police to shoot protesters.

How does Gachagua plan to oust Ruto?

He vowed to ensure that he works with other Opposition leaders to deny Ruto a second term in 2027, saying that is the only way to save the country from bad leadership.

Gachagua said he was ready to sacrifice his ambitions and resources to ensure his former boss does not return to office for another term.

He also dismissed his impeachment case, saying it has no significant impact on his political career and leadership journey.

“It is not necessary for me to be in the office to lead the people. I am not in the office today, but I am defending the people to the point where the government is afraid of me. There is a difference between being in power and being strong. I will continue to lead the people. Leadership comes from God and is given by the people,” said Gachagua.

The DCP is determined to lock Ruto out of Mt Kenya as part of a wider plan to deny him a second term. According to the former DP, Mt Kenya region contributed 47% of the total votes that pushed the president to power in 2022.

He claimed that without those votes in 2027, Ruto has no chance of winning the race.

He revealed that many pro-government leaders from Mount Kenya were looking for him at night to seek reconciliation before the next general election.

“They are looking for me at night because they want to withdraw. I have told them that I have forgiven them, but it is the responsibility of the people to decide their fate,” said the DCP leader.

Gachagua is also reportedly seeking reconciliation with the former president Uhuru Kenyatta in an effort to strengthen the Mt Kenya stronghold and prevent Ruto’s efforts to divide the area with many votes.
