He also explained the need to build a better house for the family to live in with dignity.

“Even his grandmother does not seem to be in a good mental state. These people have experienced a great shock in life and they need our help as Kenyans,” Eric said in the previous video.

How much did Kenyans contribute to Mwiti’s treatment?

Three days after the call for financial support, Eric announced that they had collected 1,003,000 shillings for the child’s care.

“God bless you very much. You have come forward for our son Mwiti to make sure he gets good care. He is currently at RFH Hospital where they are doing an evaluation to determine what his problem is,” he said.

The comedian explained that doctors were trying to determine whether Mwiti has autism or is experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

He promised that after the evaluation was completed, they would find a safe place for him to continue his recovery.

“We will provide him with a guardian while looking for a long-term solution. If it is a problem, we will even register him in a special school,” he added.

Why was Mwiti living in a cage?

According to Mwiti’s grandfather, Joseph Murungi, the boy was abandoned by his mother just one year after he was born.

Murungi explained that her daughter’s whereabouts have been unknown for seven years now, and they did not have the resources to take care of the child properly.

He said they had to put Mwiti in a cage after he became aggressive and violent when he was two years old.

“He started to be very aggressive and behave like an animal. Out of concern for his safety, his grandmother built him a cage. However, after a while, he discovered that his grandson was eating from the mud on the floor. So he built another cage that looks like a chicken coop surrounded by wire. That is where Mwiti has been living for the past seven years. His grandmother feeds him through the window of the cage.” Mioro said.

The two elders explained that putting the child in the cage was not with the intention of hurting him, but to protect him from getting lost or injured while they were busy with other duties.
