Oketch Salah Explains His Background, Says He Was Not Raised In Raila Odinga’s House

Salah has been in the middle of the debate several times due to his alleged close relationship with the former ODM leader.

Speaking in West Pokot when he was busy with a charity exercise, Salah said he was born and raised in Migori in a business family.

He explained that he was not brought up in Raila’s house, and that they only met when he was an adult, where Raila treated him as his son, and became his guardian and helper.

Salah also said that Raila was like a father to everyone due to his popularity as an influential political leader.

“Raila Odinga brought many millions of Kenyans closer, more than 20 million, and that is why he was known as Baba. I was born and raised in Migori in a business family. I did not grow up in Raila’s house; I was taken care of by my father, Salah. Raila was my guardian and helper. As written in the Bible and the Qur’an, when you become the father of everyone, you are like Raila,” he said.

The case of the “adopted son”

The businessman said Raila sent him to Dalmus Otieno’s funeral to represent him, and that’s when the name “adopted son” came up.

“He sent me to Dalmus Otieno’s funeral. When Senator Oburu Oginga was representing the Jaramogi family, Raila sent me with me. I asked in what capacity I would be representing him, and he said he sent him as his adopted son, and that’s how it started. Like anyone else, he was also like my father. We all enjoy the fruits of his labors,Salah said.

Relationship with Winnie Odinga

Salah also ignored claims of a conflict between him and Raila’s pregnant woman. Winnie Odingasaying they are on good terms.

Winnie had come forward to deny Salah and accused him of using his father’s death for personal gain.

“About Winnie, she is my younger sister, I have no problem with her. We are all like one family,” said Salah.

The popularity of Salah

Salah was more prominent last October when Raila was ill. Amid speculations about Raila’s health, Salah uploaded a picture of himself in India, revealing that he was receiving treatment there.

After Raila’s death on October 15, 2025, allegations emerged that Salah was his adopted son.

He played a prominent role in the funeral of the former Prime Minister, joining the immediate family in the national funeral in Nairobi and the funeral BondoSiaya County.

In addition, as questions about Salah’s relationship with Raila increased, the deceased and his older brother Oburu had included Salah in social events and showed a close relationship.

During his son Salah’s wedding, Oburu mentioned Salah’s close relationship with Raila, noting that he was a reliable partner during the last days of the ODM leader.
