Speaking to Inooro TV, his wife Miriam Mukami said her husband packed his clothes and left on February 14, 2006, leaving her pregnant and two other children to take care of.
“I came home on Valentine’s Day 2006 and found him gone with his clothes. It was a painful time. I was three months pregnant, and I became very sick,” Mukami said.
From then on, every Valentine’s Day became a painful reminder of her husband’s departure, and she ended up dreading that day.
“But I had to come out and take care of the children. When he left, my husband left only two children on the table. So I became the mother and father of this family. I was very stressed,” she added.
According to Mukami, she could not think of any reason why her husband left her and the children, saying they had a good life and marriage and there was no domestic dispute that could have made him decide to leave.
She recounted that her husband had repeatedly threatened to leave her and the children, saying he would return after 20 years.

He watched his family on Inooro’s TV, looking for him and begging him to come home, and he finally obeyed their request.
However, his reason for leaving his family 20 years ago has surprised many, as he pointed the finger of blame at his wife.
She claimed that he belittled her several times during their marriage and was rude to her, while also involving their landlord in their domestic disputes.
Maina recounted that the last obstacle that broke the camel’s back was the day leading up to Valentine’s Day, when he came home to find that his wife had not heated her bath water.
He said this hurt him because he had instructed him to do so earlier that day.
“When I left for work that morning, I told my wife to heat my bath water, but when I came back in the evening, she hadn’t done it, and she ignored me when I asked her why she hadn’t done it. She was just talking to her friends. I thought about the ‘insults’ I went through in marriage, and I went somewhere to cry. Later I came back, put my clothes in a paper bag, hid them under the bed and decided to leave the next day,” he said.
