Officers sent to a university in Garissa county conducted a security operation after receiving credible information that a student was involved in the sale and distribution of drugs within the institution.

Based on the information, the officers conducted a targeted raid on the hostel believed to be used as a base for the illegal activities.
During the operation on Wednesday, January 28, a female student was arrested after the police found 650 rolls of marijuana.
How a Garissa student was caught with cannabis
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the amount of drugs found indicated a well-organized distribution operation rather than personal use.
The service said the incident raised serious concerns about the increasing influx of drugs into higher education institutions and the potential risks to the safety, well-being and academic future of students.
The suspect was arrested by the police and is expected to appear in court to answer charges related to the possession and trafficking of drugs. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether other people may be linked to the distribution network.
How did the police raid a suspected drug store in Chakama, Kilifi?
In a separate operation carried out early yesterday, police officers from Langobaya Police Station took action after receiving information from the public and raided Chakama Town, Langobaya Division, Kilifi County.
The operation, carried out on Monday, January 27, targeted a shop suspected of being used for storing and distributing drugs.
A thorough search of the building led to the discovery of 220 rolls and nine kilos of suspected marijuana, which were hidden inside a metal box along with other items related to the illegal trade.
Two suspects were arrested at the scene and are being held in custody pending arraignment on drug-related charges. The police said that the specimens found have been kept at the Langobaya Police Station while the investigation continues.

The NPS commended the citizens for providing information at the right time, noting that community cooperation remains an important pillar in the fight against the illegal drug trade.

How will NIS officers reduce drug abuse in universities?
TUKO.co.ke previously reported that the Minister of Home Affairs Dating Murkomen he proposed the return of National Intelligence Service officers to university campuses as part of efforts to reduce the increase in drug and drug abuse.
The proposal followed the release of a report by the National Campaign Authority Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse which revealed the availability of marijuana and alcohol among university students.
Murkomen said deploying intelligence officers inside universities would improve detection and early intervention, adding that such strategies had been effective in the past.
