A Homa Bay student who was stuck and decided to go back to primary school because of the lack of admission fees for Grade 10 finally has every reason to smile.

Sebastian Onyango, a former student of Nyakwere Comprehensive School Rongo, felt sad after losing the chance to join Oriwo Boys Senior School.
Despite scoring 62 in KJSEA 2025, Onyango decided to delay his dream and repeat Grade Nine.
He asked the teachers to give him a chance to study so that he can get a grade that will enable him to get direct funding.
Who helped Sebastian Onyango?
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Migori parliamentary candidate, Rolex Wasonga, said he was touched by the news and decided to transfer the student to Rapogi Boys National School through his foundation.
However, when he contacted Onyango, David Odhiambo, the student had already received help from other heroes, including Rangwe Member of Parliament Lilian Gogo.
“If I were to sponsor him alone, I would send him to Rapogi Boys and give him full funding. The parents told me they would send him to Oriwo, where he was given a chance. I have my own foundation that collaborates with various schools to help stranded students. Oriwo is not one of those schools and that is why I needed to transfer him. However, I promised to buy some of the necessities he lacked,” he said, continuing to say that education is not only an opportunity but a right.
TUKO.co.ke also contacted the student’s father, who confirmed that they were on their way to the Homa Bay school.
Why Sebastian Onyango could not join Oriwo Boys
The father said he was also surprised to learn that his son had returned to primary school after talking to him about his fate.
“I didn’t know he had returned to repeat Grade Nine. I left home that morning for a routine job, and later I received a call that Onyango had returned to primary school. He couldn’t report to high school because of financial challenges. He and his sister both took the exam. So we decided to send his sister to a neighboring high school while we looked for funds to solve his case. It seems he didn’t want to wait, but now I’m very happy,” he said.
According to the father, the Rongo parliamentary candidate, Nelson Abonyo Adoko, helped them with about KSh 20,000, while Gogo made sure Onyango got a three-year sufdhili.
“Adoko gave us about KSh 20,000 while the MP for Rangwe said he would sponsor him for three years. I have thanked all those who supported us,” he said.

Onyango’s situation was an example of almost 400,000 students who failed to join the school, which made the government to start the exercise of searching every student from house to house to ensure that they are given a chance to join.
Did Money Bior refuse to help a student get into high school?
Elsewhere, an activist pleaded with former parliamentary candidate Money Bior to help a stranded girl join the Bishop Linus Okok Girls, but her request was rejected.
The girl’s family revealed that they collected KSh 24,000 and needed help to add KSh 5,000 and also buy school supplies.
Money Bior, recognizing the request, directed them to the local MP while trying to find out if they chose him in the November 27 by-election.
When cases of students needing help are increasing, the President William Ruto he gave instructions to the principals of all schools to accept any student regardless of fees or uniforms, with the aim of achieving 100% of the goals of sending students from primary school to high school.
