On Sunday, January 25, Orengo, Sifuna, and other ODM leaders attended a church service in the area KawangwareDagoretti North.
Orengo congratulates Edwin Sifuna for leadership
In his speech, the Siaya governor warned ODM leaders against removing Sifuna from his position, stressing that such a move would endanger the party.
Orengo congratulated Sifuna for his leadership and loyalty to the party, adding that ODM cannot continue to exist if some members manage to remove the Nairobi senator from his office.
The Siaya governor accused certain groups of undermining the party for their own interests and warned them against changing the basic principles of ODM.
“I want to assure you that if anyone tries to remove Sifuna from the position of ODM Secretary General, that will be the end of ODM,” said Orengo.
At the same time, Orengo said the Orange party should have its own presidential candidate in the next General Election of 2027.
Orengo opposes the coalition talks with the UDA
He warned that the initial negotiations with the ruling party United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are against the wishes of the founder of the party, Raila Odinga.
Orengo urged ODM members to focus on fulfilling the 10-point national agenda of its founder by March 7, 2026, warning that prioritizing coalition agreements instead of the core mission could weaken the ideological base of the party.
“ODM is the largest party in the Republic of Kenya. Every party wants to work with ODM. We cannot enter into negotiations where another party will bring a presidential candidate while ODM does not have one. That would be a miracle. Let the decision of Kawangware’s declaration be heard,” said the governor of Siaya.

Orengo urged ODM members to follow Raila’s vision, as expressed in his speeches and writings.
According to Orengo, the late former prime minister wanted the 10-point agenda to be implemented by the government, and not to establish a coalition.

Did Edwin Sifuna cancel participating in the ODM meeting?
Sifuna has not attended important events of the party since the central management committee decided to start coalition talks with the UDA.
The secretary general missed the meeting in Kilifi, which enabled Oburu Oginga to start initial talks on a coalition with Ruto.
Speaking to journalists, Oburu explained that Sifuna failed to attend the meeting for some reason and dismissed reports of plans to release the SG.
At the same time, the Representative of Kisumu women, Ruth Odinga, also opposed the initial talks of a coalition with the UDA before the 2027 election.
In a strongly worded statement, Ruth said it is still too early to start negotiations with the government, adding that the leadership should put effort into strengthening the movement.
He also opposed plans to remove Sifuna and the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East Grandpa Owino due to their position on the wider government.
