Obiero died on Sunday, January 18, after a months-long battle with cancer that was diagnosed in his body at the end of November 2025.
Sadly, his death came just a few years after his wife died in childbirth in 2023.
Ezra Obiero’s battle with cancer
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, his brother Ezra Edgar said that he started to get sick in November when he had severe chest pain and went to the hospital for examination.
“He would have this severe pain in his chest that got worse after sleeping. He went for a biopsy, and that’s when a sample was taken for a biopsy. Before the results came back, the pain in his chest continued. So he ended up going for an MRI just to find out what was wrong with his chest,” Edgar said.
On the day of the MRI, the biopsy results came back, showing that he had leukemia that had badly affected his lungs. He was consulted and underwent chemotherapy.
“It was discovered that the cause of the chest pain was that he had fluid accumulating in the chest area, and although it had drained, it kept recurring, causing him endless pain and discomfort,” the brother of the deceased added.
Ezra was in and out of the hospital when his condition worsened. Edgar and his family stayed with him, giving him the moral support he needed.

“A week ago, his employer intervened and helped us take him to Nairobi Hospital for better treatment. His oxygen levels were low, and as soon as we got to the station, he was transferred to the ICU. He was treated until he took his last breath on Sunday,” he said.
Ezra’s last moments before death
Edgar recounted that watching his brother bravely fight cancer was heartbreaking.
“She was often in pain. Sometimes she would be overwhelmed with pain and cry in pain, asking me to make sure to take care of her children because she felt like it was her last days. She would say ‘look after the children. I am leaving them’. But I encouraged her to fight,” he said.
It was even more heartbreaking for the family because Ezra was a widower, having lost his wife in 2023, during the birth of their second son.
At the time, Ezra wrote a heartbreaking message on Facebook, asking bitterly why his wife wouldn’t come home after she died in childbirth.
He was taken for surgery when he died, while his son survived.
“So now you’re not coming back, mom,” a heartbroken Ezra wrote in 2023, as he cried for her.
