Kethi Kilonzo: A lawyer emerges as the best UK student in Kenya, ranking 23rd in the world

He took the exam in March 2025, and not only did he surpass his fellow Kenyans, but he also beat students from various countries around the world, and earned himself the 23rd place in the world.

According to ACCA, the Advanced Taxation–UK (ATX-UK) exam is an optional but challenging paper at the Strategic Expert level.

You measure the candidate’s ability to provide strategic and practical advice on complex tax issues in the UK.

The exam involves advice to individuals and businesses, combining accounting skills and professional decisions on income tax, corporate tax, Capital Gains Tax (CGT), inheritance tax, inheritance (trusts), as well as international tax issues.

Sharing her certificate of excellence through her Facebook page, Kethi was quoted as saying:

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

Many Kenyans who saw the certificate expressed their pride, while others said that its success has motivated them to pursue their dreams more diligently.

A daughter who gave birth while still young should graduate with a PhD

In other news, Vellah Kedogo Kigwiru, a Kenyan from Vihiga County, was awarded a Doctorate Degree (PhD) at the level of Magna Cum Laudewhich is higher than even distinction.

When he received his degree at the Technical University of Munich (Technical University of Munich), one of the best universities in Europe, he knelt down and thanked God for this great success.
