The department warned that parts of the country could experience periods of heavy rain, even as many areas remain largely sunny and dry.
In the forecast issued on Tuesday, January 20, Kenya Met noted that rain during the week will not spread but will fall in specific areas.
Which areas will receive rain between January 20 and 26?
Areas expected to receive frequent rainfall include the Eastern and Western Highlands of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coastal region, and parts of the Southeastern lowlands.
The department said the amount of rain will vary greatly, with some areas recording light to moderate rain while others will experience heavy rain in a short period of time.
Rainfall maps shared by the department showed expected accumulations ranging from 1 mm to 50 mm in the affected areas.
However, isolated areas within the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the central Rift Valley, central highlands, and parts of the Coast may receive higher totals, especially where storms occur.
This advice comes against the hot and dry conditions that continue to affect large areas of the country, especially the northern, northeastern, and coastal areas.

Kenya Met also warned that daytime temperatures above 30°C are likely to persist across the Coast, north-east and north-west of Kenya, as well as parts of the South-eastern plains.
In the Eastern Highlands of the Rift Valley, areas such as Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a and Nyandarua are expected to receive rain during the week.
Meanwhile, Nandi, Kericho and Uasin Gishu counties in the Western Highlands of the Rift Valley may experience occasional rains.
Within the Rift Valley, rain is expected in counties including Nakuru, Narok and Baringo, while the Lake Victoria Basin, which covers PoisonousHoma Bay, Siaya and Migori, is expected to receive frequent rains.
Temperature charts released by the department showed extreme heat continuing in Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Tana River counties, where the maximum temperature could exceed 35°C in some areas.
Similar hot conditions are expected along the Coast, including Lamu, Kilifi, Kwale and parts of Mombasa county.
In the Coast region and the South-Eastern lowlands, including parts of Taita Taveta, Kitui and Makueni, the forecast shows frequent showers accompanied by warm to hot temperatures during the day.
Coastal counties are also expected to remain warm and humid throughout the week.
In contrast to the daytime heat in the lowlands, residents in the high altitude areas are expected to experience colder nights.

Some high altitude areas may record low temperatures of between 5°C and 10°C, especially during clear nights.
In central Kenya, including Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyandarua and parts of Laikipia, residents may experience hot days and cool nights, with afternoon temperatures generally between 20°C to 25°C.
Nairobi and neighboring counties are expected to have moderate weather during the day, frequent rains, and cold nights.
Meanwhile, in western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin, cloud formation is expected to bring afternoon and evening showers for several days, with average humidity levels affected by the lake and prevailing winds.
Kenya Met warned that weather patterns may change during the week and urged the public to stay informed by following regular updates and advisories issued through official channels.
