Nairobi: William Ruto Meets Gachagua, Other Nyandarua Parliamentarians

President William Ruto held a series of high-level meetings at the State House, Nairobi, focusing on development, diplomacy and business in the cities. The President met with leaders from Mount Kenya to review the development of affordable housing projects, health services, education and marketing. He also interacted with ambassadors, high representatives and market leaders of Nairobi on economic diplomacy and urban infrastructure challenges.

President William Ruto on Tuesday held a schedule full of meetings and activities at the State House, Nairobi, regarding national development, diplomacy, and urban business infrastructure.

Among the important meetings chaired by the president was a dialogue session with Mt Kenya MPs from Nyandarua County, where the discussion focused on the development agenda of the government of Kenya First.

Sharing details of the meeting, Ruto said the government is running various projects aimed at changing the country. “We are changing our country through many projects, including strengthening agricultural production, health services for all, construction of affordable housing, modern markets, hostels, roads, and connecting citizens with electricity and water, among others,” Ruto wrote in a Facebook post.

The President noted that Nyandarua County is fully aligned with the government’s transformation agenda, with several unique projects already being implemented. Affordable housing projects continue to be implemented in municipalities, while the construction of modern markets continues in Kwa Haraka, Miharati and Ndaragwa. The government is also adding and expanding the JM Kariuki Referral Hospital in Ol Kalou.

Ruto also noted the importance of higher education in the county’s development plan. “At the same time, Nyandarua University, which released its first 190 students in September 2025, is at the center of our plans. We will improve the infrastructure of the college, including the construction of classrooms and a library,” he added.

Leaders present at the meeting included Nyandarua Women’s Representative, Faith Gitau, MPs Kwenya Thuku (Kinangop), Njuguna Kiaraho (Ol Kalou), George Gachagua (Ndaragwa) and Michael Muchira (Oljororok).

What did Ruto tell the ambassadors in the House session? Earlier that day, the president interacted with some Kenyan ambassadors and high representatives before officially sending them to their foreign countries. Ruto said the ambassadors have a clear responsibility to develop mutually beneficial relations, protect the interests of the Kenyan nation and represent the country professionally and honestly. He noted that their work will focus on result-oriented economic diplomacy, which is on the government’s roadmap to transform Kenya into a first world economy.

The delegates were tasked with pursuing business and investment opportunities that support the country’s development agenda, create good jobs for the youth, and accelerate progress towards shared prosperity.

Later, the president met with Nairobi County market leaders, including Kangundo Road, Wakulima, Muthurwa, Burma, Kangemi, City Park, Othaya Market (Woodley-Jamuhuri), Kawangware and Gikomba. Ruto stressed that his government is committed to businessmen, including greengrocers, noting that the government is building 450 modern markets in the country and has launched the Hustler Fund to provide cheap loans and reduce abuse of businessmen in shops.

“Our discussion focused on the steps we are taking to address their challenges, including the investment of KSh 7.2 billion for the construction of 15 new markets in Nairobi, eight of which are currently under construction while seven have tendered or are in the process of purchase. The challenges of electricity and water were also discussed and the plan was reached,” he said.

The President added that the central government is working closely with the Nairobi County Government to develop a comprehensive and effective waste management plan, which will be implemented soon.

A day before, Ruto launched the distribution of KSh 258.4 million of NYOTA Business Capital Support to 10,337 young entrepreneurs from Nairobi, Kiambu and Kajiado counties. The ceremony was held at the Moi International Sports Centre, KasaraniNairobi.

Before that, more than 9,800 youths from Bomet, Baringo and other South Rift counties received KSh 22,000 each in the first phase of the program. Last week, the president also launched the distribution of KSh 147.5 million to 5,901 beneficiaries from Machakos, Kitui and Makueni counties, at Kenyatta Stadium, in Machakos.
