Rachel was startled from sleep in the middle of the night by an unusual weight on her chest.
Still half asleep and with no immediate fear, he thought his dog was curled up on top of him and reached out to pet him.
Instead of the warmth of fur, the woman from Australia touched something soft and moving slowly.
Believing it was still his dog, he gently pulled what he thought was its body towards his neck, until his lover turned on the bedside lamp.

How did Rachel Bloor free herself from the snake?
The truth was immediately apparent. The BBC reported that her boyfriend calmly told Rachel not to move, explaining that a 2.5 meter long python was lying on her chest.
“I thought if my Dalmatian found out there was a snake there, it would be a big confrontation,” he said, remembering how he cursed and got a momentary panic when he saw the snake.
Her husband quickly got the dog out of the room, while Rachel carefully began to pull herself away from the snake.
“I was just trying to get out from under the sheets, thinking, ‘Is this really happening? This is so weird,'” he said.
According to Rachel, the non-venomous python had entered the room through the window.
After he managed to free himself, he gently directed the snake towards the window, thinking that was where it had entered.
“He was so big that even when he was curled up on top of me, part of his tail was still outside the window. I caught him, and he didn’t seem too worried though. He was just shaking in my hand,” Rachel explained.
He added that remaining calm was important in controlling the situation, noting that his calmness also seemed to calm the snake.well.
