There have been rumors about Malala’s political actions after she missed an important strategy meeting called by Gachagua in the Coast region.
Gachagua, with more than 20 members of parliament, separated in Mombasa to plan strategies for 2026 while continuing their efforts to oust the President William Ruto in the 2027 election.
Speaking to M Radio, the opposition leader also denied allegations that his allies are leaving DCP and joining President Ruto’s camp.

The former second vice president revealed that his deputy fell ill during the Malala Super Cup and asked for time off to recover.
He attacked the coalition government Kenya First by spreading rumors about people who allegedly left the DCP party.
“The deputy leader of my party, Cleophas Malala, is ill. He is a brave and steadfast leader. He was in Kakamega during the Malala Super Cup, after that he caught a bad cold and asked him to rest for a while to recover before returning to our political activities. But Ruto’s propaganda team must spread rumors that someone has left,” said Gachagua.
He added that those who allegedly left his camp were puppets of the government, sent by President Ruto to gather information about the plans of the opposition.
“We saw them. They were not my people; they belonged to President Ruto. It was only a matter of time before they announced their return home. They have not moved; they have only gone where they were supposed to be,” he said.
The former second in power also said that others are leaving the DCP after being denied a direct ticket in the 2027 election.

Is Gitonga Mukunji planning to move to DCP?
In this regard, Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji dismissed online reports that he is planning to end his relationship with the former deputy president.
On Friday, January 16, Mukunji addressed the allegations head-on, pointing fingers at the former Minister of Commerce Moses Kuria by stimulating the narrative.
Mukunji emphasized that his political position is based on principles, not greed or obedience to President Ruto’s administration.
He lashed out at the government for failing to fulfill campaign promises and vowed not to engage with the Kenya First government, accusing Ruto of being dishonest, citing an unfulfilled promise to develop Kenya to Singapore.
The DCP also issued a statement dismissing the allegations of the transfer of Thika Urban MP Geoffrey Koimburi, insisting that he is not a member of the party.
