While in an interview with Citizen TV on the JKLive program on Wednesday, January 14, Nyoro claimed that the government has strayed from the principles it used in the campaign.
He argued that the government promised sustainable economic policies and prioritized education, but current practices have shown the financial systems they promised to avoid.
The MP, known for his outspoken views on the economy, pointed to the state of the nation as his main concern for the President’s government William Ruto.
He noted that the current borrowing systems and spending priorities contradict the promises made to Kenyans, which affects the long-term development of the country’s economy.
“I think the party is the one that lost, because when we were campaigning, and I even had the opportunity to come here to sell our agenda, I think that the party as a whole is the one that lost from what we should have done. I have said several things, but basically it is about the economy. We told Kenyans that we will not borrow this amount of money that we are borrowing now, that we will go through with caution in borrowing, because with sustainable development, not only the current consumption, but also the future of our economy.” Nyoro said.
Nyoro highlighted education, another important campaign promise, saying that the government has not allocated enough funds to maintain the sector.
He also emphasized the importance of giving space to opposing views, especially among young people, claiming that alternative views continue to be blocked.
The MP showed that his basic principles have not changed, regardless of who is in power, adding that the party should fulfill its promises to the people.
“So I think, when you see the representatives of the party, it is good to ask them that question, because I still believe in the things that we explained to Kenyans, and I believe that they are the right things to do, regardless of who is in power,” he explained.
Why is Ndindi Nyoro disappointed with UDA?
The MP emphasized his criticism by comparing the economy, noting that Kenya’s expected growth of 4.9% in 2025 has collapsed compared to neighboring countries.
“But if you count Kenya by region, Uganda is growing faster than us. It will grow between 6 to 6.5% in 2025. Tanzania is growing faster than us.
Rwanda, can you believe, in the third quarter of 2025, they grew at a double digit rate, more than 10%. And the overall growth of Rwanda will be between 7 to maybe 9% as the statistics are confirmed by various organizations,” Nyoro said.

Nyoro used the figures to show what he saw as a discrepancy between the government’s claims and the actual performance of the economy.
He also criticized Ruto’s government for focusing on selling images more than policies, saying that the government seems to focus more on selling stories than delivering real results to Kenyans.
“I am disappointed, I say that because I have seen that we are investing a lot in just selling looks, selling stories, instead of doing work, work that would speak for itself,” said the MP.
Will Nyoro support Ruto in 2027?
Earlier, the Kiharu Member of Parliament said that he would not support Ruto for a second term in 2027, showing a clear political divide.
He explained that he is still calculating which direction he will take in the future.
Nyoro said he now prefers respectable and mature politics and distanced himself from the policies of the Ruto government, which he described as failed and unreliable.
