How the Kimani Wamatangi Property Was Demolished
The demolition was carried out at midnight under heavy police protection, leaving many workers without help and destroying several cars, including that of Wamatangi.
The operation took place along Douglas Wakiihuri Road, Lang’ata Road, where bulldozers and earthmoving machines were brought in near the mouth of the night.
By dawn, all the buildings had been demolished, equipment destroyed, and vehicles inside the business area vandalized, all under the watchful eye of armed riot police.
Videos that circulated online showed officers patrolling as the excavators were operating, armed with batons and tear gas to ensure the safety of the area.
The destroyed business, Superclean Shine Enterprises, which provided car washes, carpet cleaning, and mechanical services, was reduced to dust and bricks.
The situation of tension spread in the surrounding areas as traders and young people tried to create a disturbance, which led to a clash with the police.
Fires were extinguished in parts of the road as the crowd expressed their anger over the midnight demolition.
At dawn, the police continued to guide bulldozers while dispersing the gathered residents, firing into the air to restore order.
Responding to the incident, Wamatangi blamed his political opponents.
He wondered what he had done wrong to be tortured this harshly.

The county boss claimed that those who caused the demolition used the power of the government to target him.
“When will this persecution against me end? What have I done wrong to be convinced of all this? I need an answer. For the past three years, I have been politically persecuted – at work and at home – by people who use the power of the government. Last night, bulldozers led by hundreds of heavily armed policemen attacked my property near the Nyayo Stadium and left everything in a state of destruction.
There was no warning, and we had a court order. The land was legally registered to us, and we have continued to pay taxes as stipulated. I have been working here since 1994. Those who did this brutal act want to stop me from doing my job as governor, but it will not change my resolve. I leave all my intentions to God.” he said.
