The central committee of the party was negotiating to fix the differences that were threatening the dissolution of the party.

This meeting was called by the leader of the party, Oburu Oginga, following days of clashes and public arguments between senior party leaders who had different views on the future of ODM.

Among the leaders who were at the center of the differences are the Nairobi senator and ODM secretary general, Edwin Sifunawith co-leader Godfrey Osotsi.

Their absence from the meeting raised speculation, given their attitude of not supporting the President’s administration William Ruto before the 2027 General Elections.

Speaking in an interview with Ramogi TV on Tuesday, January 13, Wanga emphasized Oburu’s defense of Sifuna, saying that he sent an apology before the start of the meeting.

According to Wanga, Sifuna explained that he did not come to the meeting because he missed the plane.

“The secretary general informed us that he missed the plane and apologized. We cannot consider how it happened because we received his request. Osotsi is in South Africa. They are in the communication committee of the leaders of the Senate committees. It is an official responsibility that he could not cancel. He will return at the end of this week. I also missed shouting at the meeting of the central committee when I was held at work in Homa Bay,” said Wanga, explaining that any leader may fail to attend meetings due to unavoidable circumstances including work.

The governor emphasized that Sifuna did not do anything wrong by expressing his personal opinion, adding that ODM as a democratic party respects that freedom.

“Everyone has the right to have their opinion. There is no reason to remove Sifuna from the party. What has he done wrong? He didn’t do anything wrong and no one will touch it,” confirmed Wanga.

However, he continued to say that all leaders will have to follow the party’s position to maintain discipline.
