Who is Jesus of Tongaren?

Jesus of Tongaren, whose official name is Eliud Wekes, hit the headlines after claiming that he is the Messiah and even had 12 disciples like Jesus of the Bible.

The bold announcement saw him arrested and charged with extremism, money laundering, obtaining, possessing or using the proceeds of crime and operating an illegal society.

He was also accused of writing or speaking words with the intention of hurting religious feelings, contrary to Article 138 of the Penal Code.

However, there were concerns that the preacher was struggling financially despite all the power he claims to have when he was seen seeking scholarships for his children.
